Our very own friend Sony Derazin stars in a children’s book about his early life in Haiti. Sony spent years of his childhood confined to his crib in an orphanage for physically and mentally challenged children. Sony sought for the day he would feel cared for, and thanks to five compassionate young boys who took over the orphanage, that day came. The mission Wings of Hope was created, to care for less fortunate children and to provide a safe place where Sony could mend his wings.
Sony became a valued member of Tempus Unlimited in October of 2017, and since joining, he has become involved in both our Employment Services Program and Supported Living Program. Sony dedicates his time to personal growth while also leading with positivity everywhere he goes. One of Sony’s favorite activities is coming to our gym twice a week. He looks forward to these visits, saying, “every time I walk through the doors, I feel welcomed. Everyone knows my name and talks to me when they see me, I feel understood here.” Sony appreciates being able to stay in shape and workout while listening to his favorite music. He takes immense pride in the progress he’s made, and the positive changes he’s seen in both his physical and emotional wellbeing are nothing short of inspiring.
Beyond Sony’s personal goals, he also volunteers regularly with Catholic Charities, where he helps to assemble care packages for families in need. Sony’s compassion and commitment to both himself and others shines through in everything he does, he approaches every day with a lighthearted attitude, no matter what obstacles he faces.
