Connor and Cooper are participants in the SAILS program at North River Collaborative, where they build important real-world skills to prepare for adulthood. Based in Downtown Bridgewater, the SAILS (Student Achieving Independent Living Skills) program is for young adult ages 18-22 that focuses on developing independence through hands-on support tailored to each person’s interests and strengths.
Connor is balancing work and school while gaining hands on experience in landscaping. His interest in landscaping grew when he discovered his love for tractors. He began helping neighbors with their yards and eventually expanded where he now owns a landscaping business of his own. In addition to his work outdoors, Connor is attending Massasoit Community College MAIPSE Program, where he is taking culinary classes to expand his skills and explore his interest in cooking. He joined the Pre-ETS program through Tempus Unlimited this past fall, where he has been building important workplace skills, particularly in communication and internship opportunities. Through the program, he has also gained support with everyday job tasks, including interviewing and professional interactions.
Outside of work and school, Connor enjoys spending time in the sun, skiing, and volunteering with the East Bridgewater Commercial Club, where he assists with large events like the Chili Chowder Fest by helping with the outdoor set up. Looking ahead, Connor hopes to continue working in landscaping or pursue a path in diesel or mechanical engineering. He describes his greatest strength as his strong drive and determination; when he sets his mind on something, he gets it done.
Cooper has been involved in our Pre-ETS program since December of last year. Through Pre-ETS, he has worked on improving his professional presence, as well as key job readiness skills like creating a resume, writing cover letters, and practicing introductions. He especially enjoyed assisting the Tempus maintenance team as an internship opportunity, helping him feel more comfortable and confident in a workplace setting.
Outside of his programs, Cooper enjoys horror movies, video games, and collecting trading cards. He describes his “superpower” as his strong communication skills, he can connect with others, understand their interests and carry meaningful conversations. Cooper is known for being kind, observant, and an animal lover, he takes pride in sharing knowledge and information to support those around him.
