The role of AFC Caregiver

Caregivers are often a friend or family member of the AFC member, but do not have to be. All Caregivers are independent contractors who provide direct care to members. In some cases AFC members may pay for room and board on a case by case basis.

Type of care you’ll provide:

∞ Active supervision.

∞ Assisting the member.

∞ Monitoring and reporting changes in the member’s health or well being.

Not ready to become a caregiver all the time?

Become an alternate caregiver. Alternate caregivers are complete the same screening and training as other caregivers, but work up to 14 days per calendar year.

Caregiver Requirements:

Who can be a Caregiver?

∞ A responsible adult 18+.

∞ Family member or non- relative.

Caregivers will be thoroughly pre-screened.

Caregiver Restrictions:

Who cannot be a caregiver?

∞ Legal responsible relative of the member.

∞ The member’s spouse.

∞ The parent of member who is a minor, under 18 years old.  This includes adoptive parents.

Compensation

AFC caregivers are paid a tax-free stipend by MassHealth. Stipends are either for level 1 or level 2 care based on the members needs, identified during a clinical assessment.

Training

Annual trainings are provided for all caregivers and alternate caregivers. A minimum of 8 hours of training is required per calendar year.
